House of Souls - A Psychologist's Journey To God By Judy Marshall, Ph.D.
A psychotherapist, formerly known as agnostic, discovers the emotional power of a relationship with God. In candid, at times poignant, often humorous anecdotes of her own spiritual odyssey and working with others - she explores what can happen when living faith becomes the foundation of an individual's life.
HOUSE OF SOULS - A Psychologist's Journey To God is part personal story / part theory and insight - which puts God back into psychology. There is another way to heal. Another way to feel. It's not all about self-esteem, dysfunctional issues, victimization, ego agendas, and fulfillment of needs. People of faith - whether this comes through organized religion or a deep inner conviction - will likely recognize the challenges described in understanding their most heartfelt experience and trying to practice real spiritual beliefs in a hyper-secular world (which discounts and denies both). How do we find our way spiritually and psychologically amidst the minefield of narcissistic and morally relativistic chaos we've come to know as modern life?
As the little girl and future psychologist recognized (then later forgot for many years) - faith opens us to a higher level of experience within a loving, caretaking bond with God. We are also given true absolute moral values (the God rails) as a compass and anchor, which can lead to pursuit of greater purpose beyond the self, opportunities and meaning in relationships with others - and feelings of wholeness, authenticity, and personal integrity (far more worthwhile than self-esteem).
