Sacred Fireplace' was long awaited by those who knew of Pete Catches, his work as a healer and renown for bringing the Lakota Sundance back out into the open in the early 1960's. This is a new Edition and improved. In this book he shares some of his life and how he tried not to be a medicine man. After having a sacred dream, he ran away from it for 16 years, until he felt he would die unless he enacted it. This brought him into this spirituality and to become a 37th generation Spotted Eagle medicine man for his people. In this book Pete goes into great detail into the first four of the Seven Sacred Rites given to the Lakota from a Spotted Eagle View: the Sweat Lodge, the Pipe Fast which many know as the vision quest, the Sundance, and the Making of a Relative. He also shares some beautiful Lakota legends. Several people asked to do a book on him but he felt that in time, people would want to understand the Lakota and the Sacred Rites that were given to them from a Lakota mind. He especially wanted this to be a school book for the Lakota to help bring them back to being Lakota as the Creator created them. Many have said they felt like they were sitting at a table with him and he was sharing his Lakota world with them personally. Sacred Fireplace has layers of spiritual guidance for those that are interested in these ways. He goes into some of the symbolism behind these Sacred Rites. The books of Lakota medicine men as 'Black Elk Speaks' and 'Lame Deer, Seeker of Vision' were both Heyoka medicine men, meaning that they can say the opposite in order to protect the Lakota. Because of this many are doing things counterclockwise. Pete felt it was time to set things right and share more especially for the Lakota people who had so much taken away from them, as they were now going to books to learn how to do these things. He had his seventh child, Peter, who was born with this medicine to share some insights into the Spotted Eagle Way and some of the legends of the people and the land of the Lakota. It is a unique look into the beautiful ancient Lakota world.
