This map covers the following areas:
Main Provence Map 1:280,000

Take a journey of the senses to a place of outstanding natural beauty, sumptuous food, elegant wines, magical towns, compelling terrain, sunny climate and proud, friendly people. The place you are going to visit is called Provence, and you will never forget it!

First buy a STREETWISE map of Provence. Then you can start your trip in Avignon, where a full day is needed to walk within the old walls and see Le Palais des Papes and the Pont St Bnezet. Continue traveling west on the N100, toward Remoulins to see the stunning Pont du Gard. Afterward drive up D981 past rolling lavender fields to Uzes for a tour of the still inhabited feudal duchy. If its market day, the town will be packed and you can wander through the stalls of impeccable fruits, vegetables, cheeses, olives and flowers.

Next, drive south towards the city of Nmes, home to the stunning Roman Amphitheatre and the origin of denim (serge de Nmes). Move on taking the D999 east towards Beaucaire and Tarascon both on the Rhone River. Continue on the D99- go slowly- because you are about to enter one of the most beautiful towns in all of France --St. Remy-de-Provence. Find a small cafe to relax and watch the bon chic-bon genre pass by as you sip your grande crme. Spend a day or a lifetime in this charming and ultra hip town.

Back on the road, pick up the small D27 found on our STREETWISE map of Provence (see grid J-K8) and head for Les-Baux with a stop at Le Paradou for lunch. Now take D5 north to D99 and head east through Cavaillon, and look for the D938 toward Isle sur la Sorgue - and watch out for bicyclists from Butterfield and Robinson! This is the place to shop for antiques.

We are not done yet. Heading south to the N100 then D103 is where youll find Mnerbes, made famous by Peter Mayles book, A Year in Provence. Get a delicious dinner and a good night's rest in Mnerbes, for there is much more that awaits you in Provence. Tomorrow perhaps Lacoste for breakfast at an outdoor caf then a hike up the hill and see the remains of the Chateau where the Marquis de Sade once lived. Or Roussillion, home of ancient ochre quarries, where the saturated hues of apricot, brick and mustard yellow glow against the clear blue Provencal sky. Maybe Gordes, perched on a hilltop with the Luberon Valley stretched out before you.

Whatever itinerary you choose, take your time. Provence is meant to be enjoyed slowly. With our STREETWISE Provence Map youll be free to wander wherever your senses lead you.
