Chapters 2 - 6 present a natural history of the eastern alpine ecosystem, describing the phenomena and species most likely encountered and detailing the geology, climate, weather, flora, and fauna. Chapters 7 - 21 profile 12 major eastern alpine ranges, from New England to Labrador, and briefly touch on many other ranges.
