On February 4, 2010, the McStay family of four mysteriously vanished from their Southern California home.
Fascinated by the family's disappearance, Rick Baker launched a two-year investigation into the mystery that had him traveling to different countries where the family had been sighted.
Following hundreds of hours of research, he released his book, NO GOODBYES. It was the first glimpse into the family as Baker had access to Joseph and Summer's email data bases. Based on his research, travels and interview with over 50 McStay related players, he determined that the family had fled the US for any number of reasons.
Then in November of 2013, the remains of the family of four were found in the high desert of Southern California. This scenario had not been entertained by Baker.
As a result, Baker offered a refund to any reader who had purchased his book prior to November, 2013.
Along the way and following the release of his book in February of 2013, some extended McStay family members were upset because their inner secrets and workings were exposed by Baker. They, along with other Internet defamers, launched a smear campaign against the author and his family in the spring of 2014, publishing blogs such as Stop Rick Baker and McStay Family Justice. These hit blogs were carefully crafted to smear Baker with half-truths and outright fabrications, as well as impugn his wife, who lost her battle with stage IV breast cancer on Easter Sunday morning, 2017. Their attacks continue to this day.
